You will need the following tools to successfully complete the replacement of your Media Card Reader

  • A flat clean surface work surface to place both the APM and components removed during install
  • The Keys that are shipped with the APM (The larger of the two sets with the number 301 inscribed on it)
  • Phillips Screw Driver (small to medium size)
  • The Replacement Card Reader

Safety Note:

before touching any internal components especially circuit boards, make sure the APM is turned off and unplugged from the wall, surge strip etc. Also ensure you are completely grounded to prevent electro-static discharge that can damage the internal circuit boards found in the Kiosk.


Step 1-- Unlocking Front Bezel

 
  •    Place the APM-3700 on a flat surface with the front of the kiosk facing you

 
  • Insert the provided key (The larger of the 2 sets provided) into the lock located on the top left of the Kiosk’s front bezel. Set the lock to the “on” position.

 

Step 2 – Remove/Replace the Card Reader and/or CD Drive:

  • .Carefully pry the front bezel cover from the chassis, working from left to right. No tools are required for this step as the design allows for its removal with your bare hands. There are two markings (arrows) on the upper left and right corners of the bezel that show were the clips are located. Little pressure should be applied to those locations to free the bezel off the chassis as shown to the right

 
  • Completely remove the front bezel and place it somewhere safe. Now that the bezel is removed that will leave the Optical Drive & Receipt printer tray exposed.

    If the clips that secure the bezel to the chassis will not come loose. Use a screwdriver at the location of clip 3(see image above), carefully push the clip in until it is released from the chassis.

 
  • Pull the tray out of the bay using the two silver tabs located at near the bottom of the Kiosk. A small amount of force needs to be applied to pull the tray our which is connected to a daughter board to the rear of the tray. The red arrows  in the imageto the right

 

Step 3 – Remove/Replace the Card Reader and/or CD Drive:

 
  •  With the bay occupied by the Optical Drive and Receipt printer empty, this leaves clear access to the back of the Media Card Reader from within the empty bay.
  • The Media Card Reader is connected to via three cables, a custom USB connector, an ATX Molex Connector and a standard USB (B) Connector.  The three cables must be detached from the back of the card reader before it can be removed. Those cables are attached to other cables via zip ties, pulling the card reader out without first disconnecting the mentioned cables could damage those other components.

 
  •  Once the cables are unplugged, remove the 4 screws found on the sides of the card reader (2 are found on each side of the card reader). Once the 4 screws are removed it will allow the Media Card Reader to freely slide out of its chassis.

 
  •  Push the back of the card reader with your fingers until enough of it protrudes for you to get a firm grip on it, to pull it completely free of the chassis.

 

 Step 4 – Reinstallation of the Drive:

 

Reverse the above steps to install the new or replacement media card reader.

orientate the three cables that run into media card reader cables to match the position of their receptacles before installing the media reader, this makes it easier to install the connectors. You can also feel for the receptacles using your hand, or spy their location from the space found towards the rear of the kiosk that space is created when the cable management/ back bezel (Power, Ethernet etc) is removed.
