With the iOS & Android Connect License, the APM can be configured to allow a customers to conveniently access photos from their Apple and Android mobile devices. This article reviews configuration and operation of this feature for Apple iOS devices.
Configuring the Kiosk
Apple iOS 8
iOS 8 (released 9/17/14) requires new USB drivers. Installing the latest version of iTunes, as described below (steps #1-5), is required to get the proper drivers installed, even on kiosks which have previously been configured for iOS Connect.
- Visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download and install iTunes.
- Disable iTunes Helper.
- On Windows 8:
- Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and open the Task Manager.
- Click on the "Startup" tab (if no tabs are visible, click on the "More Options" button)
- Find "iTunes Helper", right-click and choose "Disable"
- Close the Task Manager
- On Windows 7:
- Open the Start Menu and type in "msconfig".
- Click on the "Startup" tab.
- Find "iTunes" and/or "iTunes Helper" and turn off the respective checkboxes to disable them.
- Hit "Apply" then "OK".
- On Windows 8:
- Reboot the kiosk. Once restarted, quit the APM software which will automatically launch.
- Using a certified cable, connect an iPhone running iOS 8 to the machine.
- Wait while Windows indicates that it is installing a new driver. (This may take a minute or two.)
- Launch the Setup Wizard and go to Kiosk Settings > Devices. Turn on the "Enable iOS & Android Detection" checkbox. Save & quit.
- Launch the APM software if it does not start automatically.
Instructions for Customers to Connect their Apple Device to the Kiosk Software
- Swipe to unlock the device and enter the passcode if necessary.
- On the Load Media screen of the kiosk, connect the device using a certified cable. Do not click "Continue".
- Windows should identify it within a few seconds (normally indicated by a sound).
- On the device tap the "Trust this Computer" button which will appear.
- If the connection does not succeed within 60 seconds, disconnect the phone, wait 5 seconds, and then begin at Step #1 again.
Recognized Images from an Apple Device
Only photos captured on the device (in the “Camera Roll”) are accessible. Photos synched from an iPhoto library are not accessible.

Certified Cables
- Cheap cables do not work well. Ensure you are using a high-quality, Apple-certified cable. We recommend:
- Make sure to have the USB cable connected directly to the PC. Some USB hubs, especially unpowered ones, may interfere with operations.
